Roger's (White Eyed Conure) Blog

Original Blog can be viewed HERE
Roger is my White Eyed Conure and I adore him. I have only had him a couple of years though he is much older, we think; about 7 years old, and he was a rescue bird entrusted to me by parrots.ie members, for which I am eternally grateful.
Roger is alittle different to most of the White Eyed Conures, in that Roger appears to be a color mutation rather than the norm, and Roger lacks the splash of red feathers that is seen on the normal White Eyed Conure, though Roger of late is sporting a few red spots too, which a year ago werent as visible, indeed they were hardly visible at all.
This selection of pictures will show you the White Eyed Conure and what it normally looks like

And this of course is the Uniquely Handsome and Outrageously Funny; One and Only; Roger

Notice that his wings lack the red coloring

Who Loves ya Baby

Aww Go on! I never did that!

Roger and I have been through thick and thin together. Sometimes more thin than thick, but through it all Roger has put a smile on my face and made me laugh, and I would like to share one of my little funny mans stories here with all of you.
As you know my home got flooded some time back and Roger had to go and stay with my niece and her boyfriend Anthony. They were crazy about Roger too. One day however, Anthony's Gran got ill and within a couple of days she sadly died and passed away. The family were all gathered at the hospital when she died, and so were with her in those last moments on earth. She was indeed a very loved and dear sweet old lady. They have a tradition here that when someone in the household dies, the light is switched on in the house, and left on for the night, I think the idea behind the tradition is that the light is a comfort to the family and friends of the person they are parting with. Anyway, as the whole family were gathered at the hospital, there was nobody at home to switch on the lights in the house, so they phoned a kind neighbor and told him where the spare key of the house was, and asked him to switch on the lights in the house, momentarily forgetting about Roger in his cage in the living room. The man they rang; the kind neighbor, went immediately to their house to switch on all the lights. As he entered the living room of the empty house where the lady had just died, through the darkeness he was spooked by the sound of an eery little voice as Roger, in his usual cheerful way said; " Hello how are you?" Well they almost had a second funeral to attend because the poor man nearly died on the spot of a heart attack, he thought Roger was a Ghost

Yes! Even in life's darkest hour Roger can bring a smile to your face and put laughter back into your heart.

Each morning without fail Roger greets me with that self same greeting; "Hello How are you?" and no matter what the weather is like, or how tired I am, or how busy I am, I have to stop and chat to him, and marvel at his cheerful disposition and the excitement and genuine joy with which he greets me. There is never a dull moment when Im in Roger's company
